As one of the privileged official photographers for Ed Sheeran’s historic concert at the Sky Stadium. I had the opportunity to be a part of capturing the largest event to ever take place there with an estimated 48,000 attendees. It was an absolute honour to photograph and preserve the electrifying energy and unforgettable moments of this unforgettable spectacle for posterity. The concert was opened by Kiwi country star Kaylee Bell and British singer-songwriter Maisie Peters.

The stage was a rotating circular platform, creating an intimate vibe for the crowd, with five towering lights and LED screens ensuring everyone had a clear view of the action. Ed Sheeran performed many of his greatest hits, including “Shape of You,” “Castle on the Hill,” “Photograph,” and “Bloodstream,” proving that authenticity in music is still possible in the age of modern technology. The crowd was in the palm of his hand throughout the performance, listening intently to his commentary between songs.

At one point, Sheeran stumbled during his performance of “Galway Girl” and admitted that he had forgotten the lyrics. Instead of booing, the crowd laughed and Sheeran invited a young girl named Pippa from the audience to help him finish the song. Pippa struggled at first, but quickly got into the rhythm and guided Sheeran through the rest of the lyrics, creating a special moment for the night.

Brady is great to work with. He captures the brief perfectly and is able to adapt to any changes at the last minute if required. He’s always working, running around looking for the best angles to shoot from and has a real creative eye for capturing concerts and music events brilliantly. We’ll definitely work with Brady again in the future

Sheeran closed the show with two of his biggest hits, “Shape of You” and “Bad Habits,” switching his “Wellington” tee for an All Blacks jersey. The night was an unforgettable experience for the thousands of fans who attended, and Ed Sheeran’s music and performance style captivated the audience throughout.

Overall, the concert at Sky Stadium was a night to remember, with Ed Sheeran delivering a performance that combined intimacy and high production value. The show was an amazing experience for the fans and a testament to the power of authentic, talented musicians in today’s music industry. With a career that spans over a decade and sales of over 150 million records, Ed Sheeran continues to be one of the world’s most successful performers and a true master of his craft.

I already can’t wait for Ed Sheeran to back in Wellington again to capture the next show.
