Wellington to Fiji with Air New Zealand

Well I’ve told myself I’m going to write a daily blog of our honeymoon in Fiji. But already I’m starting to regret that – haha. So in the interest of actually having the honeymoon instead of writing about it, I might restrict it to just one post per place we visit! We home this morning at 11am (not bad considering we said “lets leave by 10am!”). Had a bunch of things we had to do… Read more »

New Lens: Samyang 14mm f/2.8 Prime

After hearing exceptional things about the new range of Samyang lenses to hit the market I was excited to try one out. I’ve been getting into more and more interior architecture photography, and night time sky photography – both require a very wide lens. With my other lenses not quite fitting the space, I’ve been keeping an eye out for something very wide for some time. But I didn’t want a fish-eye lens. When I first… Read more »

Should guys wear makeup for photo shoots?

This is a question I get asked quite a bit, and I’m sure a question that some guys think even more than I get asked. Should guys wear make-up for photo shoots? I worked with Hil Cook recently, and got talking about make-up for guys. Hil’s talent as a hair, make-up and prosthetic artist is recognized world wide. Her work has graced the pages of  International make-up artistry magazine and Italian Vogue and lit up the… Read more »

Awesome Marketing Photos

Found these photos of an employment company from Germany. Their motto is “life’s too short for the wrong job”. One of their advertising campaigns is to put 3D posters on various machines throughout Germany. Such an awesome idea! Thanks Cindy for sending it through to me. Hey Seek.co.nz – get in touch, let’s make some magic!

How do I work as a wedding photographer?

Most people are getting married for the first time and speaking from experience as a past-groom myself there is so much to think about with the planning of your big day. One thing I noticed while I was on the ‘other side’ is how uneducated you are to deal with what you need to plan, how you go about it, and when and why things should be done. I’ve decided to put together this guide in… Read more »

Shapeshifter’s Wellington Concert – Delta Tour

On Saturday night I headed along to Shapeshifter’s concert in Wellington. They busted out a heap of older stuff, and just as many songs from their newly released album, Delta. Was an awesome concert! Seen them six times now, and could almost say this was the best yet! Our seats were awesome (pro’s of getting in early with tickets), front & centre at the Wellington Town Hall. My favourite songs of the night had to… Read more »

What does a travelling photographer take to Fiji?

I started writing a list of the gear I want to take on my honeymoon to Fiji next month and now with the list a mile long I’ve got to start justifying it to myself – so thought, why not share that? Canon 5Dmk2 – Was never going to leave my DSLR at home. Ever. Canon 24-70 f/2.8 lens – My favourite lens, versatile for most situations. Canon 16-35 f/2.8 lens – Didn’t take this… Read more »

The opening of something new isn’t official till you’ve had an opening party! So three weeks after we moved into our new studio at 380 Jackson Street, Petone – we decided to bust out the cheese & pineapple and get the bubbles pouring. Thanks to the friends, clients and family that popped in to share a drink or four. Here’s a few photos of the new studio, and a few from the opening night -… Read more »

New Website Launched!

After opening my new photography studio last week, it seemed the next thing to do was relaunch my website. It was a tricky decision to make as I regularly get comments from clients about how great my old website was. But there were two main things that forced me to switch it up. The first was that my old website wasn’t the nicest on mobile devices. I know I could have developed a mobile only… Read more »
