Tākina – The Jewel of Wellington’s Events Scene

Discover what makes Tākina the unrivaled choice for events and conferences in Wellington:

  • Strategic Location: Situated at 50 Cable Street, Te Aro, Tākina boasts a prime location directly opposite Te Papa and is just a two-minute walk to the waterfront. This central position provides unparalleled accessibility and a picturesque backdrop for events.
  • Purpose-Built Design: With three levels dedicated to international and local conferences, Tākina’s purpose-built design ensures a seamless flow for events of all sizes, accommodating up to 1,600 attendees. The venue’s 18,000 square meters of space across three floors open up new dimensions for creativity and flexibility in event planning.
  • Te Papa Collaboration: Operated by Te Papa, Tākina Events combines the expertise of two world-class venues under the brand ‘Tākina Events.’ This collaboration brings a wealth of experience to event management, ensuring a high standard of service and professionalism.
  • Global Exhibitions Hub: Tākina Exhibition Centre is set to elevate Wellington’s cultural offerings by hosting global exhibitions that were previously unable to be hosted in New Zealand. This expands the city’s cultural footprint and positions Tākina as a hub for international and local art and exhibitions.
  • Sustainability Champion: Tākina takes the lead in sustainability, achieving New Zealand’s first five-star NZGBC Green Star Design rating for a Convention Centre. With a focus on using 60% less energy and emitting 66% less carbon emissions than similar-sized buildings, Tākina aligns with New Zealand’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050.

My relationship with Tākina began before the doors even opened, as I worked closely with construction partners to encapsulate the remarkable journey from inception to completion. Through the lens, I captured the hustle and precision, witnessing Tākina’s transformation from raw materials to a stunning architectural masterpiece. These behind-the-scenes moments, filled with hard hats, dedication, and the birth of an iconic venue, hold a special place in my photographic narrative.

Since its grand opening in June 2023, I’ve been honored to step into the vibrant world of Tākina, capturing the essence of diverse events and conferences that have graced its halls. Each occasion, whether a global conference or a local event, has been a unique canvas to paint with my lens—immersing myself in the dynamic energy that defines Tākina’s atmosphere. From the eloquent plenary spaces to the intimate corners of the venue, my goal has been to weave together visual narratives that encapsulate the spirit of each gathering. It’s been a privilege to witness the seamless fusion of purpose and celebration within Tākina’s walls, adding layers to its narrative with every click of the shutter.

Now, I’m excited to share a glimpse of Tākina’s transformative charm through a curated selection of my favourite photographs. These images not only showcase the versatility of the venue but also reflect the captivating moments and stories that unfold within its modern, purpose-built spaces.
